Circle City Raceway is the culmination of an incredible partnership between the Marion County Fairgrounds and Indianapolis businessman Kevin Garrigus. In late July 2020, the Fairgrounds board of directors entered into discussions with Mr. Garrigus, the owner and promoter of the Indianapolis Speedrome since 2016. Mr. Garrigus' leadership and commitment into transforming the Speedrome into a premier racing facility was noticed by the board, and they wanted the same thing to happen at the Fairgrounds racetrack.
So, on October 1, 2020, Circle City Raceway was born. Moving forward during the fall and winter, Kevin and his staff have moved at break-neck pace in constructing another premier racing facility, always keeping in mind its potential fans and competitors' happiness and satisfaction. Other than the main stretch grandstands and light poles, there was little infrastructure in place to take care of 5,000 fans and hundreds of competitors, so entire new restrooms, concessions, parking and more grandstands were built. The quarter mile track was carved out by one of the nation's top excavators and racetrack builders, Scott Petry and Petry Excavating, and promises to put on some of the best close quarters racing in the country.
In October of 2023 Circle City Raceway was purchased by Eddie VanMeter business owner of EDCO Welding and VanHawk Roofing and Restoration and Shannon Mastin Business Owner of Shelbyville Auto parts and Mastin and Cain Warehousing they immediately went to work making improvements to the already beautiful facility by redoing the entire track surface tore out the entire old dirt surface and brought in clay to make the racing surface a favorited track in Indiana spending several hundreds of thousands of dollars and much needed improvement. They continued building by adding all new pits stands a suite and platform overlooking the track and enlarged the pit area to make it a better functioning setup.
March of 2024 Eddie and Donna VanMeter purchased Shannon Mastin's shares of the track as Shannon had a sudden life changing impact on his family and became full time care giver to his 18-year-old son Cody who was in a serious auto accident, we're all very happy to say Cody is improving each day with the hard work and his family's dedication to his healing. Even with all the challenges Shannon was facing he still advises and helps out with anything asked of him proving that their friendship went beyond the partnership venture of the racetrack. Circle City Raceway is owned by a 36-year racing family. When Eddie & Donna VanMeter are not at one of the BEST dirt tracks in Indiana they are traveling with their 3rd generation VanMeter in racing son Billy VanMeter who races the ASA Allstars Super Series and the Southern Super Series along with the CRA Championship Racing Assocation and CRA JEGS Crate Late Model series. Soon Billy VanMeter's son Kason VanMeter will be 5 years old adding to the 4th generation of VanMeter's in racing following his great grandpa Skip VanMeter his grandpa Eddie VanMeter and Father Billy VanMeter.
We look forward to writing out new chapters of racing history as we begin this journey. We invite all of our teams and fans to come play #INtheDirt!
